Offsite Highlights: What We Learned from Planning in Hamburg, Berlin, Prague & Barcelona

Over the past years, we’ve had the chance to plan and experience offsites in three very different but equally inspiring cities, Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, and Barcelona. Here’s what stood out, what worked surprisingly well, and why it all comes down to understanding the people you’re planning for.


Hamburg: Planning Meets Play

In Hamburg, we leaned into structure. The offsite was designed with a focus on team reliability, project management, and execution under pressure, but still with plenty of room for fun.

One of the highlights was a deceptively simple activity: build the tallest spaghetti tower. With limited supplies and time, teams had to plan fast, divide roles, adapt quickly, and work together. The result? A lot of laughter, low-stakes pressure, and some real insight into team dynamics.

As always, great food played a key role. Our curated restaurant experiences gave everyone space to relax, reflect, and reconnect in a way no meeting room ever could.


Prague: Competition, Culture & the Unexpected

We went into Prague with a different vibe in mind, a blend of fun and cultural curiosity. One standout experience: axe throwing. Admittedly, we were hesitant. Some of us had seen horror stories online. But it ended up being one of the most fun and energizing activities of the trip. The competitive edge brought out everyone’s playful side.

Between the action, we slowed things down with a walking tour led by a local guide, letting the team absorb the city’s layers of history while connecting naturally along the way. And yes, the food in Prague didn’t disappoint.

We capped things off with a stop at a bar/club for late-night drinks and laughs, because sometimes the best moments happen when the structure falls away.


Barcelona: Culture, Color & Creative Surprises

Barcelona gave us more time and space to explore a balance of inspiration, culture, and fun. We visited the Sagrada Família, booked a scavenger hunt around the city that got way more competitive than expected, and a session of art & wine.

That last one surprised us. A few team members were skeptical (“I can’t draw!”), but by the end, everyone was relaxed, laughing, and genuinely proud of their work. It reminded us: creative discomfort often leads to unexpected connection.


So What Did We Learn?

There’s no one-size-fits-all formula, and trying to find one can kill the magic. What matters is:

  • Read the room: Don’t send out endless polls. Tune into the vibe, the personalities, and the group’s energy.
  • Mix structure with surprise: Activities work best when they’re balanced with downtime and discovery.
  • Let things evolve: The best moments often happen between the scheduled events, on a walk, over drinks, during a shared laugh.
  • Anchor in food and flow: Great meals and natural conversation are underrated glue for teams.

Most of all, we were reminded that these experiences last. They become stories. Anchors. Shared memories that strengthen culture long after the bags are unpacked.
